mother

future posts may be slowing down as my laptop took a hit from a power surge about 2 weeks ago. no matter, my roomate has a computer and hopefully i will be able to get a new motherboard asap. if anyone finds one for cheap let me know. peace

i've heard that if you need a new mother board, your laptop is considered "totalled" because the cost of replacement, compared to the cost of buying a brandnew laptop is so high. Too high infact. be sure that when you're shopping around, you compare the cost of replacement with the cost of buying a new lappy. you might determine that (a) you don't need a laptop now that you're not a student, or (b) that it would be more cost efficient to get a new lappy rather than repair the old one. consider that in the power surge, your lappy might have been damaged in ways that cannot be determined until you get a new motherboard and boot up again. then you're adding costs to more costs, etc, etc.
